　　Abstract:

　　We propose and experimentally realize a new kind of bound states incontinuum (BIC) in a class of systems constructed by coupling multipleidentical one-dimensional (1D) chains each with inversion symmetry. Insuch systems, a specific separation of the Hilbert space into atopological and a non-topological subspace exists. Bulk-boundarycorrespondence in the topological subspace guarantees the existence of alocalized interface state which can lie in the continuum of extendedstates in the non-topological subspace, forming a BIC. The separationof Hilbert space also allows the coexistence of Anderson localizedstates and the extended states.

　　Professor Zhao-Qing Zhang obtained his BSc degree (1968) from Tunghai University and PhD degree (1974) from the University of Pennsylvania.  After his postdoc stay at the Univeristy of Minnesota, he joined the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing, China from 1979-1989, where he was promoted from Associate Research Scientist to Research Scientist in 1986.  From 1989 to 1994, Professor Zhang was a visitor at the Exxon Corporate Research Center in New Jersey, USA.  He joined the Physics Department of HKUST in 1994 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2004. Professor Zhang has published over 165 journal articles.  He was a recipient of School of Science Teaching Award in 2006.  He served as a member of Editorial Board for Physical Review series from 2011 to 2013 and was selected as one of the outstanding referees by the American Physical Society in 2015.
